A federal judge in New York sentenced Oren, Alon and Tal Alexander to 30 years in prison following their convictions in a sex trafficking scheme.
U.S. District Judge Valerie Caproni sentenced brothers Oren, Alon and Tal Alexander to 30 years in prison on Tuesday in federal court in New York, Fox News reported. A jury convicted the three men in March on 10 counts, including conspiracy to commit sex trafficking, sex trafficking by force, fraud or coercion, and inducement to travel to engage in unlawful sexual activity.
Accusers describe years of trauma
Before Judge Caproni announced the sentences, 11 accusers addressed the court to describe how the assaults damaged their lives. One woman using a pseudonym recounted the lasting harm of the encounter, telling the court, “It took one night, only a few hours, one invitation to completely wreck the girl I once was.” Another woman, Bela Koval, stated that her first trip to the Hamptons turned into a nightmare in a location filled with dark secrets, CBS News reported.
Lindsey Acree also spoke directly to the defendants during the sentencing hearing. Acree previously testified that Tal Alexander and another man raped her at a Hamptons residence in 2011 after she drank something that caused paralysis. In court on Tuesday, Acree looked toward Oren Alexander, questioning why the brothers inflicted such cruelty on women and asserting that a life sentence would not be enough. She said she was speaking out so that her eight-year-old daughter would not have to live around such abuse, prompting applause from other victims as she walked out.
During the four-week trial, 11 women testified about being targeted by the brothers, with six of the accusers included in the criminal indictment. Several witnesses stated they were underage at the time of the attacks, and prosecutors alleged two were teenagers. Victims described receiving gifts, luxury accommodations and invitations to parties before being given drugs and assaulted while incapacitated. One woman testified that she lost control of her body after accepting a drink from Alon Alexander at a nightclub in New York City, according to NBC News. She testified that she awoke naked in bed with him, and when she attempted to get up and told him she did not want to have sex, he claimed they already had.
Prosecutors sought life while defense asked for leniency
Federal prosecutors from the Southern District of New York urged the judge to impose life sentences on all three men, describing them as serial rapists. Prosecutors said in court filings that more than 70 women reported sexual assault or rape by the brothers, accusing them of using wealth, status and celebrity connections to prey on victims. An indictment further stated that the brothers assaulted incapacitated victims and occasionally took photographs during the abuse. In trial closing arguments, prosecutor Andrew Jones said the defendants maintained an image of wealthy partygoers while following a regular method to lure, isolate and assault women.
Lawyers for the brothers requested the mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years, contending that the sexual encounters were consensual. Defense attorneys argued that the accusers coordinated their stories for financial gain, with Tal Alexander’s attorney Deanna Paul telling jurors during the trial that the witnesses were seeking money. The defense acknowledged that the brothers had at times engaged in obnoxious or insensitive banter, but insisted they never committed sexual assault.
The three brothers addressed the court before being sentenced and continued to maintain their innocence. Oren Alexander expressed regret for aspects of his past conduct toward women, but denied the charges. “My brothers and I have never drugged or raped anyone. We never trafficked anyone for sex and we never conspired to hurt anyone,” Oren Alexander said.
Disputed careers and history of abuse
The sentences marked a collapse for the brothers, who had spent years in high-profile professional roles. The news accounts differed, however, on the specific careers of each brother. Fox News reported that Oren Alexander and Tal Alexander built careers as prominent luxury real estate brokers at Douglas Elliman, where they brokered major transactions, including a penthouse sale of nearly $240 million in 2019, before co-founding the real estate firm Official in 2022. Fox News reported that Alon Alexander did not work in real estate and served as an executive at the family’s private security company.
CBS News and NBC News reported that Oren Alexander and Alon Alexander were the real estate brokers, with CBS News reporting that the pair were known by the nickname The A Team and handled luxury properties in New York, Los Angeles and Miami. CBS News reported that Tal Alexander held the executive role at the family security firm after graduating from law school.
Prosecutors said the brothers’ history of sexual violence began as early as 2001 or 2002, while they were attending high school in Miami. Federal authorities arrested Oren, Alon and Tal Alexander in December 2024, and the three men remained held without bail through Tuesday’s sentencing.
