No. 21 Florida scored five touchdowns on its first five second-half possessions to beat No. 4 Ole Miss.
No. 21 Florida defeated No. 4 Ole Miss 52-28 on Saturday in Gainesville, taking control in the second half of the Ole Miss vs Florida matchup at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium.
The Gators carried a lead into halftime and took over the game in The Swamp by scoring touchdowns on each of their first five possessions of the second half. Florida entered the contest as a 3.5-point favorite.
The trip served as the first true road test for Ole Miss head coach Pete Golding, who entered the weekend 5-1 in his second season with the Rebels. Ole Miss had climbed to No. 4 in the AP Top 25 Poll following a 32-24 win over former head coach Lane Kiffin and LSU in Oxford the week before.
Ole Miss played without full health in its backfield after running back Kewan Lacy suffered a shoulder injury against LSU. Lacy, who led the country in touches last season, was listed as doubtful and wasn’t expected to play. Florida’s head coach, identified as Jon Sumrall by the Orlando Sentinel and John Sumrall by SB Nation, entered Saturday with a 3-0 record in his first season with the Gators.
