Jaxson Dart to miss rest of season with knee injury

New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart will undergo surgery after damaging multiple ligaments in his left knee against the Rams.

Why Giants Won't Announce Timeline For Jaxson Dart Injury

In the latest Jaxson Dart injury update, the New York Giants quarterback will undergo season-ending surgery on his left knee after tearing multiple ligaments during Monday night’s 28-6 loss to the Los Angeles Rams.

Rams linebackers Byron Young and Josaiah Stewart hit Dart as he threw from the pocket less than five minutes into the first quarter. Dart limped off the field, briefly attempted to return, and was ruled out for the remainder of the game. A Tuesday MRI showed the Dart injury was worse than team officials first hoped, revealing damage to his MCL, PCL, and meniscus. ESPN reported that the meniscus damage is considered the primary issue.

Dart’s upcoming knee procedure is expected to lead to a full recovery, according to reporting from NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo, though it will sideline him for the rest of the 2026 season. Despite the diagnosis, Dart was back at the team facility on Thursday to sit in on meetings with his teammates.

The Giants will now turn to 32-year-old Jameis Winston to start at quarterback. Head coach John Harbaugh said Wednesday that “all options are open” as the team evaluates its depth under center, though Harbaugh didn’t close the door on Dart potentially returning if New York reaches the playoffs. The Giants entered the game at 1-0 after an opening win over the Dallas Cowboys.
