Alex de Minaur saved a match point to defeat Alexander Zverev before Carlos Alcaraz rallied to leave the Laver Cup level in London.
The Laver Cup stood tied at 5-5 on Saturday in London after Team World’s Alex de Minaur saved a match point to defeat Alexander Zverev and Carlos Alcaraz mounted a comeback for Team Europe.
De Minaur fought back to beat Zverev 2-6, 7-6, 11-9 on day two at The O2 arena. The 27-year-old, who was left bloodied after winning a point during the match, said afterward that he left it all out there. Alcaraz then responded with his own comeback to pull Team Europe back into an overall tie.
Team Europe had built a 3-1 lead across Friday’s opening day. Casper Ruud gave Europe the initial advantage by defeating Francisco Cerundolo before Brandon Nakashima leveled the contest for Team World with a win over Jakub Mensik. Rafael Jodar restored Europe’s lead on his tournament debut, defeating Alexander Bublik 6-2, 6-3 in an hour and 24 minutes. Alcaraz and Mensik then secured the final point of the first day with a doubles victory.
The ninth edition of the event features Team Europe captain Yannick Noah facing Team World captain Andre Agassi and vice-captain Pat Rafter. Agassi replaced John McEnroe, who served as Team World’s captain from 2017 to 2024. Team World entered the weekend after losing Ben Shelton, who withdrew from the tournament before play began.
