The New York Mets removed the interim tag from Andy Green with six games remaining in the season.
The New York Mets named interim manager Andy Green their full-time manager on Tuesday, signing him to a three-year contract ahead of a game against the Texas Rangers in Arlington, Texas.
David Stearns, the Mets president of baseball operations, announced the decision before the start of the club’s final road trip of the season. Green becomes the 26th manager in franchise history, taking over permanently with just six regular-season games left on the schedule.
Green stepped in as interim manager in June after the Mets fired Carlos Mendoza. The agreement marks a shift from earlier expectations and indications that Green would return to the front office instead of pursuing the managerial job full time.
New York sits in last place in the National League East and will miss the postseason for the second straight year following a 2026 campaign burdened by injuries. The Mets conclude their season on the road with games against Texas and Washington.
