A24’s crime drama starring Robert Pattinson opened in fourth place with $19.2 million, while Avengers: Endgame Encore topped the weekend box office.
A24’s new crime drama Primetime generated $19.2 million from 2,863 North American theaters over the weekend, marking the studio’s third-highest opening to date.
Directed by Lance Oppenheim, the primetime movie stars Robert Pattinson as To Catch a Predator host Chris Hansen. The production cost $15 million, putting it in position to turn a profit theatrically. Ticket buyers under 30 made up 69% of the opening audience, and audiences gave the film a B grade through CinemaScore exit polling. Hansen said after viewing the movie that it was “so bizarre” and “detached from reality.”

The re-release added $60 million overseas for an $86 million global weekend haul. David A. Gross, who publishes the FranchiseRe newsletter, said re-releases rarely make more than $10 million.
