Raúl Rosas Jr. knocked out veteran Raoni Barcelos in the fifth round Saturday night to win the bantamweight main event of UFC Vegas 121 at the Meta Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada. The victory marked Rosas’ first UFC main event appearance and pushed his winning streak to six fights.
The 21-year-old Rosas and the 39-year-old Barcelos traded strikes early before the bout ended abruptly in round five, when Rosas took Barcelos down and Barcelos lost consciousness. Medical personnel placed Barcelos on a stretcher and carried him out of the cage before transporting him directly to a hospital. Outlets gave differing accounts of his condition afterward: SB Nation reported that Barcelos was awake following the bout, while Uncrowned reported that his condition remained uncertain after his transport.
The bantamweight clash received Fight of the Night honors, awarding both Rosas and Barcelos a $100,000 bonus. The 12-fight card, streamed on Paramount+ and also referred to as UFC Fight Night 289 by MMA Junkie, produced eight finishes on the night.
