Tebow announced the decision in Gainesville ahead of Florida’s football game against Ole Miss, according to the Orlando Sentinel. The former Florida star said his representatives will investigate allegations of wrongdoing involving the company, which he has represented for the past five years. Reports stated he was ‘caught off guard’ by the accusations.
The former NFL quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner has spoken at dozens of events for the organization and received payment. Tebow was on pace to headline more than 20 conferences this year, according to Pro Football Network.
The gatherings feature Christian celebrity speakers and worship music. According to the investigation, attendees faced predatory tactics and high-pressure sales pushes to sign up for expensive classes, with reporting showing instances where people lost thousands of dollars.
The findings were reported Thursday on the journalist’s podcast in collaboration with Mother Jones reporter Kiera Butler. Former Denver Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson has also been linked to the organization, according to Heavy.
