You hate April Fools? You should give this one a chance

On April 1, 1957, the BBC broadcast a reportage about the spaghetti harvest in the Switzerland in its programme “Panorama”.

Thanks to a very mild winter and the virtual elimination of the dreaded spaghetti weevil, Swiss farmers could enjoy their spaghetti harvest.

This announcement with pictures is accompanied by farmers who pick spaghetti from trees. Thousands of spectators believed the show and wanted to know how they could get their own spaghetti tree.

BBC replied diplomatically,

“is a spaghetti in a can of tomato sauce and hoping for the best.”
