Days after his club brought down the sledgehammer on his head as a disciplinary measure, Lionel Messi has issued an apologetic statement on social media.

Lionel Messi has expressed regret for travelling to Saudi Arabia without permission, which led to Paris Saint-Germain suspending him.

After visiting Saudi Arabia on a sponsored trip, Messi was penalized by the French team and is not anticipated to play in the matches against Troyes and Ajaccio.

The Argentine star has apologized to the squad and his teammates in response to the criticism, explaining that he mistakenly believed he had the day off and was unable to cancel the trip.

Messi said in a broadcast on social media: “Hello. Well, I wanted to make this video after everything that’s going on. First of all, I apologise again to my teammates at the club. I honestly thought that we were going to have the day off after the game as we had done before. I had organised this trip to Saudi Arabia, which I had previously cancelled and I couldn’t go. Once again, I apologise for what I did. So here I am, waiting to see what the club wants to do, nothing more. A hug.”

Lionel Messi was reportedly been given a two-week suspension by Paris Saint-Germain for missing training on Monday to travel to Saudi Arabia.

According to ESPN, Messi won’t be paid during his ban and won’t practice or play for the starting lineup.

According to the French daily L’Equipe, PSG manager Christophe Galtier informed his players that if they defeated Lorient on Sunday, they would get two days off, Monday and Tuesday, but if they lost, they would have to report to practice on Monday.

Galtier and sporting director Luis Campos granted Messi permission to go in the event of a victory or draw after he requested permission to honour his sponsorship agreement as a Saudi ambassador.

But after PSG’s humiliating 3-1 loss to Lorient, their third defeat in their previous four league games, sources told ESPN that Messi flew to Saudi Arabia without seeking another approval, which prevented him from going to practice on Monday.
