Equestrian Hannah Serfass, 15, passed away on Sunday in Florida after competing in a jumping competition at Fox Lea Farms. She was sent to Sarasota Memorial Hospital in critical condition and later declared dead.

The United States Equestrian Federation claims that she experienced a “rotational fall” that was “unrelated to a jumping effort.” Serfass was mounted on Quaxx 2, a 12-year-old Holsteiner, when the event occurred. Halfway through the course, the horse tripped the equestrian. As a result, Serfass, the rider, tipped forward during the competition and dismounted. Serfass was already on the ground when the horse finally fell on her head.

Following the incident, Fox Lea Farms released the following statement: “Hannah from Webster, Florida, was a very talented young rider who trained with Robin Swinderman. Her love of horses, natural talent, and work ethic made her well-known.”

In Webster City, Florida, Janine Serfass gave birth to Hannah Serfass in 2007. Her father’s identity has not been made public. Hannah’s mother inspired her to love horseback riding. Additionally, she had an older sister who enjoyed riding horses.

Her mother, in particular, supported her desire to ride horses and gave her permission to train with Robin Swinderman Mitchell. She was guided by Mitchell as she developed as a junior rider and helped select suitable horses. She was one of the youngest contestants in the SE Finals Children’s Medal in 2021. Her placing was second in the competition.

She won the Hamel NHS 3’3 Medal after competing in the class for the first time. Even though Hannah competed in horseback riding, she remained committed to her studies and homeschooled. She was able to blend her passion for horseback riding with her interests in academia.
