His parents are Sonya and Dell Curry. He was born in Akron, Ohio at Summa Akron City Hospital, while his father was a member of the Cleveland Cavaliers.
He grew up in Charlotte, North Carolina, where his father spent most of his NBA career with the Charlotte Hornets.

Dell frequently brought Curry and his younger brother Seth along to his games, when they warmed up by shooting with the Hornets. The family temporarily relocated to Toronto, where Dell played his final season of basketball with the Raptors. Curry was a member of the Queensway Christian College boys’ basketball team at the time, helping them achieve a perfect season.
He also played for the Toronto 5-0, an Ontario-based club team, where he faced Kelly Olynyk and Cory Joseph, two more future NBA players. Curry oversaw the team’s 33-4 record as they advanced to the provincial finals.
The family returned to Charlotte once Dell retired, and Curry enrolled in Charlotte Christian School, where he was named all-conference and all-state and captained his team to three conference championships and three appearances in the state playoffs.
Curry aspired to play collegiate basketball for Virginia Tech because of his father’s illustrious career there, but due in part to his thin 160-pound stature, he was only given a walk-on place. After being extensively solicited by Davidson College starting in the eleventh grade, he ultimately decided to enrol there.
